Mermaid poem

So what?

So what if I'm a Mermaid?

Strangled by seaweed
going down because of male greed.

Look at my little sister
there she sits on a cold stone
she was a fearless maid, now sinister
once upon a time we saw how the lucky planets on her shone
now she freezes down to the bone
in Denmark.

She's raped, cold and old.

Old cold stone.

Exposed to every hungry look
A tsunami the shores of earth shook
many years before  Andersen wrote about her virginity lost
My sister, she will never defrost
and for me, there is no going back
from this god forgotten wrack.

A man stepped ashore
We thought he was hoping to score
but he showed me his true colours
and we became lovers.

Humans are ignorant
virgins aren't always innocent
their souls lost in the murk.

We Mermaids don't do homework.

So what if I'm a Mermaid?
